The Challenge:

Major retailers, wholesalers, foodservice operator and QSRs have made public commitments to food traceability. Some have expanded their requirements beyond the FDA’s, asking for more data for more types of food on a faster timeline. If your customer requires traceability, then you – the supplier – are required to DO traceability now.

How many of your customers have asked for traceability?

Learn how ReposiTrak helps suppliers to share food traceability data with every customer by watching this short video: Are your customers asking for traceability?

As a supplier, here’s what you should consider when taking on traceability:
  • Where does the traceability data come from? Is it on a bill of lading (BOL), Advanced Shipping Notice (ASN), on an invoice, etc.?
    • Once you ship an item, your customers may be able to receive your BOL or ASN, but will they have a method of extracting the required traceability data elements?
    • Will they have an employee manually looking for the specific data when it’s sent for every shipment?
    • Could their system automatically find the right data element in the BOL or ASN?
  • Is the traceability data in the same physical place on each document?
  • Does the data reside in one of your internal systems such as a Warehouse Management System (WMS) or an accounting system?
  • How does your customer need to receive the data? What if Customer A wants it in one format and Customer B in another?
