Who Should Take This Course?

This ten module program is aimed at Preventive Control Qualified Individuals (PCQIs) in the food processing industry that need to be proficient in hazard analysis, risk-based prevention and control (HARPC) standards as required by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) under FSMA’s Human Food Rule.

Course Description

ImEpik developed a 20-hour self-paced HARPC course, which is the first in a FSMA series, designed to prepare Preventive Control Qualified Individuals (PCQIs) for FSMA and HARPC. The ImEpik HARPC course is an interactive, assessment-based online learning environment that trains food-processing employees for the global food manufacturer industry. This course contains material equivalent to the FSPCA course, plus additional interactive content and ability to take the course at your own pace.

The course supports the learning experience with voice-over-narration, animated videos, sequential content, remediation and interactive exercises complimented by an online study manual covering specific parts of the regulations, cGMPs, and supplementary material for each module.

Working through product specific case scenarios, trainees are placed in practical plant situations that culminate with development of a food safety plan outline and a comprehensive final examination. With a computer or tablet and an internet connection, the HARPC training experience allows professionals to be trained as a food safety qualified individual using a cost effective online solution that uses strong instructional methods with proven assessment techniques to meet or exceed traditional learning method courses.

FSMA defines the role of Preventive Control Qualified Individual and establishes the minimum knowledge, skills and scientific training necessary for industry to effectively manage the expanded responsibilities outlined in this landmark legislation:

117.180 (c) (1): “to be a preventive controls qualified individual, the individual must have successfully completed training in the development and application of risk-based preventive controls at least equivalent to that received under a standardized curriculum recognized as adequate by the FDA or otherwise qualified through job experience to develop and apply a food safety system. Job experience may qualify an individual to perform these functions if such experience has provided an individual with knowledge at least equivalent to that provided through the standardized curriculum. This individual may be, but is not required to be, an employee of the facility.”

Each FDA registered facility must designate a Preventive Control Qualified Individual (PCQI) who is responsible for the development, oversight and management of the Food Safety Plan who is required to have training and experience that exceeds existing HACCP based systems.

The ImEpik HARPC Course© was developed using the required topics and learning objectives in the standardized curriculum which is offered in a face-to-face or blended online/in-person versions through FSPCA. Our course is the alternative training allowed for in the regulation.
